Cheminova completes Wyong purchaseThe purchase by Ospray, Cheminova’s Australian subsidiary, “was part of Cheminova continuing to progress on a strategic path to significantly build its presence in the Australian market,” said John Harvey, managing director of Ospray.

Cheminova has developed a wide range of plant protection products by in-house process and formulation development, and markets its products globally through subsidiaries in 16 key countries including Europe, North and South America and
Australasia.

They are currently the fourth largest manufacturer of generic agricultural chemicals in the world. Annual turnover is above 4 billion Danish Kroner (AUD 1,068,000,000) and it is listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange as Auriga Industries. Cheminova employs 900 people in Denmark and 750 abroad which will include the existing team at Wyong.

Martin Petersen, the regional president of Cheminova covering the Australian, New Zealand, United States and Canadian markets believes the move is significant for Cheminova, and is excited by the opportunities which are presented.
“The acquisition of the site provides a sound platform for supply to the Australian market, and in the changeable industry which we are in it is important to be responsive to grower needs.” he said.

Ospray acquires Allfire Crop Protection Business
Ospray Pty Ltd has acquired the Allfire crop protection business from agVantage.Ospray Acquires Allfire

The acquisition includes the Allfire related assets and business. More than 50 APVMA approved products and the associated intellectual property have been acquired under the deal.

According to Ospray business development manager, David Coad, the acquisition is part of Ospray’s long term growth strategy in Australia and follows the recent acquisition of the former Bayer formulation facility at Wyong.

“The Allfire acquisition is another significant investment by Ospray and represents a long-term commitment by Ospray and parent company Cheminova to crop protection in Australia,” Mr Coad said.

“Cheminova is now a top 10 player in the international market and it is our goal to be a major player in the Australian crop protection market.”

The Allfire portfolio was developed over an eight-year period and was marketed nationally. There are many key brands within the product range, including Convict, Rambo, Nut-Buster, Richocet and All-graze. Many of these key brands will be
incorporated into the Ospray product portfolio with manufacturing transferred to the Cheminova (Mfg) site at Wyong.

According to agVantage CEO, Steve Crothers, the move reflects the inevitable rationalisation in the market with significant benefits for both companies.
